How to Apply for Tennessee SNAP

The fastest and most convenient way to apply is online, but you can also apply in person or by mail.

Key Eligibility Rules (2025)

To qualify for SNAP, you must meet requirements for income, assets, and residency.

Your household's gross monthly income (before deductions) must be at or below 130% of the federal poverty line:

Other Eligibility Rules

  • Asset Limit: For most households, there is no asset limit. However, households with a senior or disabled member have an asset limit of $4,250.
  • Work Requirements: Able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) aged 18-64 are generally required to work, volunteer, or participate in a training program for at least 80 hours per month.

🚨 Need Food Help Fast? Expedited (Emergency) SNAP

You may qualify for Expedited SNAP and receive benefits within 7 days if your household meets one of these criteria:

  • Your monthly household income is less than $150 and your cash/bank assets are $100 or less.
  • Your combined income and assets are less than your monthly rent and utility bills.
  • You are a migrant or seasonal farmworker with little to no income or assets.

Your application is automatically screened for expedited eligibility. You only need to verify your identity to receive emergency benefits; other documents can be submitted later.
