Asset Rule (New Jersey Policy)

For most households, there is NO asset limit. You can apply regardless of the value of your bank accounts or vehicles. A federal asset limit of $4,500 only applies to certain households with a senior or disabled member whose income is above the standard limit.

Work Requirements

Able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) aged 18-54 are generally required to work, volunteer, or participate in a training program for at least 80 hours per month. Exemptions are available for students, pregnant individuals, and others.

You may qualify for Expedited SNAP and receive benefits within 7 days if your household meets one of these criteria:

  • Your monthly household income is less than $150 and your cash/bank assets are $100 or less.
  • Your combined income and assets are less than your monthly rent and utility bills.
  • You are a migrant or seasonal farmworker with little to no income or assets.
