If you live in Alaska and need food assistance immediately, you may be eligible for Emergency SNAP benefits (also called Expedited SNAP). This guide explains how you can qualify and receive help in 7 days or less.


Do You Qualify for Emergency SNAP?

You may be eligible for these fast-tracked benefits if your household meets one of the following criteria:

  • Your household's gross monthly income is less than $150, AND your cash and bank account balances are $100 or less.
  • Your combined income and cash assets are less than your monthly rent/mortgage and utility bills.
  • Your household includes a migrant or seasonal farmworker with very little income and cash assets.

If any of these apply to you, make sure to indicate that you need "Expedited/Emergency SNAP" when you apply.

How to Apply for Benefits

The fastest way to apply is online through the Alaska Department of Health's official portal. You will need a myAlaska account to log in and complete the application.

What Happens Next?

If you qualify for Emergency SNAP, a decision will be made within 7 days. Once approved, you will receive an Alaska Quest Card (EBT card) in the mail, which you can use to purchase groceries.
